Day In The Life Of J.J. Redick

6:45 AM- Wake up

6:46 AM- Calls Coach K, just to check in

7:00 AM- Shower

7:15 AM- Launches towel into the hamper from much farther than needed, sinks it, whispers to himself, "I still got it".

8:00 AM- Drives to nearest breakfast joint in Orlando while blasting the Duke fight song with the windows down.

8:09 AM- Greeted by a chorus of boos in the diner. Smiles, nods, thinks to himself how he loves how Orlandoians yell, "Duuuuuuuuke" everywhere he goes.

9:00 AM- Calls Shane to check in.

9:02 AM- Calls "Booze" to check in.

9:03 AM- Calls Grant to check in. He doesn't answer, again.

9:05 AM- Lays by the pool for a few seconds of sun, being careful not to tan, Coach K taught us that it is a sign of weakness.

9:06 AM- Packs up gear to head to the Amway Arena while watching SportsCenter, wonders how Vince, Antawn, and Marvin are so good.

9:07 AM- Glances at the Duke coaches application that all basketball players get on senior night and wonders if the NBA was the right decision.

9:45 AM- Arrives at Amways Arena, Anthony Johnson is parked in his spot again, he shrugs at Redick and says, "Sorry rookie."

10:00 AM- Checks the All-Star weekend schedule, still not in the 3 point contest line up. Calls agent to ask why. No answer.

11:00 AM- After an intense stretching session, does defensive slides from elbow to elbow 3 times, slaps his palms on the ground, falls backwards and calls it a day on the defensive end. Dwight looks oddly at him as J.J. says, "Coach K always said my defense was underrated, you gotta work hard big man."

11:30 AM- Calls Dick Vitale to alert him not to cash this month's check, it might bounce.

12:00 PM- Dribbles 2 lengths of the court, mixing in a cross over at mid-court, calls it a day for ball handling.

1:00 PM- Starts his daily regiment of 333 3's from each spot around the arc.

3:00 PM- Free throws, 333, of course.

5:00 PM- Make A Wish Foundation child visits the Magic locker room. He walks straight over to Redick as J.J. asks if they're going to spend the rest of the day together. Kid looks at him, slaps him, walks away. Wish granted.

7:00 PM- Joins lay-up line with teammates, asks Matt Barnes, "Why do we do this, it's only worth 2? Maybe I should ask Coach Van Gundy." Barnes snickers and tells him to talk to coach.

7:58 PM- After a technical, J.J. starts to walk to the line. As Jameer toes the line, J.J. says, "I got this little guy." Jameer looks at Van Gundy, Van Gundy sighs and shakes his head. Redick cans it and absorbs the "Duuuuuuuke" cheers raining down on him.

8:30 PM- Wonders why he hasn't played more tonight, thinks, "Didn't coach see I was fouled on those 4 3s?" Debates whether or not he should remind Van Gundy that he is the most prolific scorer in ACC history.

9:00 PM- With the game tied and 3 seconds remaining, Van Gundy draws up a play for Rashard Lewis. During the explanation, J.J. asks if he's sure they don't need a 3, Van Gundy says, "Yeah, white boy, I'm sure."

9:01 PM- Lewis hits the shot, Magic win, Redick wildly waves towel on the bench.

9:10 PM- Surrounded by 2 reporters, Redick answers questions about the game and explains how instrumental he was in doing the "little things" in tonight's win.

9:30 PM- Showers, hopes Vince Carter's assistant doesn't steal his towel, again.

10:00 PM- Watches highlights on SportsCenter while getting dressed. Sees Cavs highlights of LeBron dropping 45, 10, and 12. Scoffs, looks at Barnes and says, "45? Yeah but he only went 3-11 from 3."

11:00 PM- Meets the guys at the club, argues with the bouncer stating that he is on the Magic, Dwight waves from inside.

11:30 PM- Gets into the club.

12:00 PM- Orders a Shirley Temple, looks at Dwight and says, "Let's get drunk!"

I Can't Help Myself

I have been flipping between the SEC championship and the ACC championship for the past half hour and since no one is here to complain to, I'll do it here. Dook is a number 1 seed this year, I get it, but they play the same stale style that will only get them an ACC title and nothing at the dance. Of the last 4 or 5 possessions, there offense has consisted of Singler slowly making a move, forcing a shot, missing, Zoubek awkwardly having it fumbled into his hands, kick it out to an open guy, make a 3. Sweet offense, just the way we drew it up. Even worse, after their last sequence like this, Dawkins made the 3 and was bombarded by the clones on the bench as they all ran over during a time out. Imagine the celebration that would ensue upon an athletic play or a well crafted offensive possession. Next, following the string of weird rebounds by Zoubek (half of which were poked loose at some point by a guard), the commentators said how Zoubek's size was having a big impact on Tech's game. Haha, he then got bitched on defense and gave up an and-1 and then had 2 potential rebounds poked loose by far smaller opponents. Derek Favors (freshman) just worked him, too. To conclude, Singler just tackled Dan Shulman while saving a ball and quickly jumped back into the play and continued on with the game. As a ref and a Tech player joked with Dicky V and Shulman to see if they were ok, Singler stood stone faced on the court thinking only of the mission at hand. Also, while I wrote this, Scheyer preformed about 13 to 14 head fakes.

The other two guys in the group are Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme and Led Zepplin's John Paul Jones. You go out to the hall fountain and fill it up, one problem though, that hall water is grimy and just because the bottle says Fiji doesn't make the new stuff clean. Thanks to Water Bobble, problem solved. With this on the lid, you filter the water as you squeeze it from the bottle to your mouth. One filter lasts for like 300 bottles so drink up.

Lucky for you, since I have finished my finals I have watched way too much Olympic action. One thing I have watched a lot of is curling. Lyle and I agree that if we were given 3 years to "train" for this sport we would make the USA team. This isn't like other sports where you need a God given ability like speed or strength, both of which I have anyway. I have played hours of shuffleboard casually over the years so I think with some training I could handle this. Also, since the USA sucks at this they might as well give me a shot to bring home a gold. If that doesn't work for them, why don't they recruit some drunks from Jake's that are nasty at shuffleboard instead of the nerds I saw playing the other day.

Next on the list is women's hockey. You probably think I'm about to say how boring it is to watch women's sports blah, blah, blah. Wrong. Here's the thing, women are not allowed to body check...in hockey. Isn't that insulting to them? These are the best women IN THE WORLD at this CONTACT sport and they aren't allowed to body check? It's the same rules that 12 year old boys have to play by. This is not a knock on women hockey players either, it's a knock on whoever makes the rules. I enjoyed watching them play, it's like soccer, they can do everything just as well as the men they're just not as big and fast, but it's still entertaining. Just let them hit each other, I'm pretty sure they would be ok with that. Also, fire that woman announcer that ruins Doc Emrick's awesome skills.

Heinz as been at the top of the ketchup game for as long as I can remember, and they just stretched their lead even more. Instead of using the old packets of fancy ketchup when you're at a fast food place or something, you can now use the Dip & Squeeze. Hurt Locker

I'm no movie critic, but I think I have a keen eye for what's what when it comes to TV and movies. I just got done watching the Hurt Locker and it was amazing. The whole premise is that they chronicle what it's like to be a bomb technician in the Army. From what I've read it's a pretty accurate depiction, and even if it wasn't they do an awfully good job at making it feel real and not like a movie. They don't do the stupid shit like follow bullets through the air until it hits someone like in Three Kings or something. Either way, this movie makes you appreciate your own life and also what people in the military do for us everyday. Thanks guys.

Marcus Troy is a dude that writes a killer blog about pretty much everything, and was recently given what he called, "the opportunity of a life time". Marcus was able to go to Nike's Bespoke headquarters to make his own pair of Air Force 1's. To the uninformed, Bespoke is like NikeID.com on steroids and is by appointment only. Anywho, the dude made a sick pair of 1's that is valued at about 800 bones. Wally Hermes Yachts have just dropped a new design, which is completely and ridiculously over the top. This 190' floating island has a 656 sq. foot master suite with an 82 foot terrace and 5 guest suites. If you get bored while floating around the Atlantic you can always hang out in the screening room, dining room, music room, or the 82 foot pool next to the helipad. With that said, all you eco freaks are probably stewing, but this thing also has 2,952 sq. feet of solar panels to power this small country.

You probably heard already, but ESPN is launching a new channel called ESPN 3D. Obviously, they are going to show games in 3D starting with the World Cup in June. To see the games you will need a set of those fashionable 3D glasses and a 3D capable TV, which none of us have yet.

If you've never gone to Comcast to trade in a broken modem or cable box then you won't really know what I'm talking about, but I'll try to help you understand. I was waiting to deposit my Christmas money yesterday and started thinking about how easy it would be to jump over the counter and grab whatever I wanted. This shit doesn't fly at Comcast. They have like 4 inches of bullet-proof glass between you and the lady behind the counter. Also, when you trade in whatever malfunctioning piece of equipment you have, you have to put it through a box that they open from the other side when your side shuts. Really? Because of all this, you have to talk to them through the weird microphone things like at the movies that you can't understand (speaking of which, why are they under so much protection?). It just seems over the top to have a bank have wide open access to reach across the counter to an area holding tens-of-thousands-of-dollars, but yet Comcast protects their employees like they're selling Kryptonite.

My Girlfriend, Jackie Greco

Over the past few months I have noticed some qualities about my girlfriend that have made me think about who she really is. I've come to realize that if she was a man, she would definitely be one of those guido meatheads that I don't really care for. I've since forgotten most of my evidence, but a few pieces remain:

1.) She loves lathering herself at the beach to get a golden brown exterior

2.) She instinctively flexes her biceps if I grab it to get her attention

3.) She was drawn to a cut off crew-neck sweatshirt at the mall the other day (like the kind guys would wear to Muscle Beach with a big belt/back support)

4.) I often catch her checking out her bod in a mirror or very clean window

5.) She shaves her forearms

To go along with this, she and I have collectively noticed characteristics that she possess which are very similar to one George Costanza, they are as follows:

1.) She loves to tell you how good she is at parallel parking

2.) She doesn't like to front money for things (but who does?)

3.) She definitely would have eaten that eclair out of the trash can

4.) She does not have a job but says she wants to go on vacation/has one planned for May

5.) She claims to not wear a shirt while going to the bathroom (not yet proven)

I suppose all these things combine to make up the perfect girl for me, a juiced up version of George Louis Costanza.

So after I posted the info on the Sam Adams Utopias beer I got a message on the Face from one of my international connects in Spain about a sweet beer I should check out. Kwak, is a Belgian beer made by the people at Bosteels Brewery. Why such a weird glass you ask? According to their website, it was made so that it could be hung a mail coach while delivering mail. Soon after a breathalyzer was invented and the first DUI was given. Thanks for the heads up Ali G.

LeDeux 2010 Sweet

LeDeux has dropped their 2010 line on us and if I had stacks to blow, I would do so here. The line is entitled "Sweet" for obvious reasons, featuring pen sketches of historical and current ballers like Jackie Robinson and Manny Pacquiao. My favorite part? Probably the quote on the back of the Pac-Man shirt, "Your arms too short to box with God". Oh, also, this stuff is printed on organic cotton with lead and pvc free ink.

Sam Adams Utopias

I used to think myself something of a beer connoisseur, but not after seeing the Sam Adams Utopias. This stuff is meant to be sipped at room temp, and lucky for us 2009's batch is the strongest yet. Weighing in at 27% abv., this stuff will knock you on your backside pretty quickly. Not only is this stuff strong (as in strongest in the world), it is pretty rare too, only 53 barrels are made every year. This stuff would not be appropriate for "pouring one out", among other things.

Lyle Vacation Update

So Lyle has vacation days to use up before the end of the year, you know what that means. Now that he doesn't need to wake up early he can booze with reckless abandon. Tonight was his first night of vacation, the following transpired:

Walking back from quizzo, I asked, "Do you have your keys?" Lyle answered, "Do you know how much I hate carrying things I don't need in my pockets?"

After driving him to Wawa for his post bar snack (don't worry mom I only had 2 beers in 3 hours) he continually referred to his Lunchable Pizza as if it were a real pizza by asking if he should "make me a slice" or saying he couldn't wait to "cook it" when we got home.

He claimed I didn't park close enough to the curb when we got back, the picture is evidence of how close I was.

Walking from the car to the house I said, "Would you make out with *******?" He replied, "I already have....apparently."

I forgot how good this album is, you can literally listen to it from beginning to end. Coming in a close 2nd is Hov's "Blueprint", further proving that the ROC boys have been in the building all decade long. Scope the rest of the top 10.

Today, I watched SportsNation on ESPN for the first time. The show is pretty cool and the chick on it, Michelle Beadle, seems real cool. She's like the girl that lived on your floor freshman year that would randomly know stuff about sports and would bust on guys better than you could. Not that I know what the latter feels like, but I still know that those kinds of people are cool. Last, but not least, they played several Jay-Z songs on the show, they probably looked on Yahoo! read my blog and saw it was Jay's birthday.

NIke Air Max 90 Pigeon iD

Ok, so short story long, Jeff Staple is a designer who has collaboed with Nike (and NB and Converse) in the past to make a line of limiteds dubbed, "Pigeons". He puts a pigeon logo on the shoes and uses colorways that mimic that of a pigeon, i.e. grays in the upper with orangeish soles. These limiteds are coveted by all sneakerheads, especially people from NYC as the pigeon is the unofficial bird of the streets of the concrete jungle. Recently, a pair of 90s were shown online that someone created on NikeiD with the Pigeon colorway. Although they don't have the ever-so-important Pigeon logo, they still are ridiculous and dare I say rival the Infrareds.

Although pieces of his new album, "Lasers", have been floating around, there hasn't been anything substantial from him for a while. This project was done cassette style so it's actually one long 22 minute track that is actually multiple tracks inside. Street Crossing

Okay, here's the bottom line: I'm really good at crossing the street. I wait until the light is yellow for oncoming traffic and I begin to cross so that by the time I am across I don't get in people's way from the other direction. It's pretty hard to annoy me, but when people brazenly cross the street it gets me heated. Why do people wait for red lights in both directions, step out like 3 feet then stop suddenly and look at the light like, "Oh shit, it's green now?"? This half-hearted cross prompts a wave across by the first driver and screws everything at the light. Another way to get me heated at an intersection is to press the button. The button is only useful in the city where it's constant traffic and people are hauling ass all day long. If you press the button in West Chester it keeps that walking guy up long enough to get the entire Dugger cult through the intersection when you really only need like 3 seconds, or a little longer than a yellow light. The absolute worst street crossing tactic is a combination of the two aforementioned tactics. It is to press the button and then look out and realize no one is deterring you from crossing. This stunt makes all the lights red for what seems like an eternity, but the people doing this don't realize it because they have already crossed and are damn near a full block away, probably doing it again.
